WHO ARE THE FRIENDS?
The Friends of the Pleasant Valley Free Library is a volunteer group dedicated to
promoting the use of the Library’s resources, programs, and services. We work
closely with our Library Director and staff, as well as the Board of Trustees, to
support and advance our Library. We use the funds we raise to purchase needed
materials and equipment and to sponsor programs. These purchases allow our Library
to function on a minimum of tax dollars. On average we raise roughly $30,000/year.
Our income derives from Friend fundraisers such as Book Sales and Mah Jongg
Tournaments as well as projects such as yard and plant sales. We’re happy to
encourage gifts and contributions.
WHAT DO THE FRIENDS DO?
There are many different activities Friends can do, from sorting books, selling books,
shelving books and coming up with new and interesting ways to fundraise.
Importantly, Friends also help to promote our Library through their support and
enthusiasm for our Library’s mission*.
HOW CAN I HELP?
We encourage you to join us! Our group is always open to new people and new ideas.
Becoming a Friend will introduce you to a wonderful and friendly group of people.
This is your opportunity to meet and connect with others while supporting your
Library.
The Friends meet to conduct business and discuss fundraisers on the 3rd Wednesday
of every month at 6pm in our Community Room. The best way to decide if joining
the Friends is right for you is to pop in to one of our meetings. If you decide to join,
the dues are $10/year and the commitment for your time can be as much or as little as
you desire. Most Friends volunteer 2 hours a week but some like to come just for
special sales. And if meetings aren’t really your thing or you don’t like to drive at
night, you don’t have to come after that first one, we’ll email you monthly to let you
know what’s going on.
